Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Splatoon Metacritic Predictions

Either 75 or 88

Around the Network

Either 81, 84, or  87.

Maybe around 79

Around 85 I'm thinkin. Which will surely be considered a success.

I'm thinking upper 80's maybe low 90's. While many are bashing lack of content, the majority of those who played it and the many reviewers/magazines/news outlets that have been able to play it over the last year have nearly all given glowing, positive reviews. This game is bringing a HUGE amount of freshness and uniqueness to probably the most stale genre out there. It is going to make a huge splash, and deservedly so. Nintendo has a huge winner on their hands and I cannot wait for this game to release.

Around the Network

I say 76%
Fun game but lack of content lowers the scores.

There's also the fact that Kirby didn't have an online mode, only local (Splatoon has both) and Splatoon allows for multiple control options while Kirby limits you to touch controls. At the very least, Splatoon should match Kirby but I suspect it will be higher than that.

Kirby and Toad are the same lenght. Toad is 81 because is fresh, polish and fun. Kirby doesnt have the Toad score because it is polish and fun too but you have to play with a stylus in a 480p screen insted of your tv,  and the game is not the first with the innovative concept (that was canvas curse, ), also is a 2D game, something percived as "cheap", Splatoon has none of those problems. If something it would match the Toad score just for the single player, and we know that the single player is where we are going to spend just the 5% of the time in this game, so... we´ll see.

Agreed, to both of you. And like I said, I think it should score mid 80s at least, but people were mentioning scores in the 60s because of lack of Content, so I thought I'd come up with a sort of worst case scenario comparison. I also think there is a real possibility rewiewers might not like the way It's releasing with free DLC.

Also, how could I forget about Captain Toad!?

Mid 80's. From what I played I would give it a 90+ but there will be a bit of backlash due to lack of voice chat. It might be lower because there are some reviewers that seriously HATE any form of motion control at all and will dock points due to the default using motion controls. If they take the time, about 3 or 4 seconds to switch off motion controls and not bitch about it, it should rate pretty high. Some might be like me and find that in this situation, the motion controls are the best scheme I have ever used in a shooter (Keyboard and mouse included) and I want ALL shooters to use a similar control scheme, it should rate quite high. It's still a simplistic game, point and shoot and the idea of covering/controlling the most area with ink is novel so most should be able to pick up and play fairly easily, which should lend itself to high ratings. Lack of weapons at release might lend itself to some critique though.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

Honestly, this game looks and plays a lot better than Captain Toad, so I'll be really disappointed if the scores are lower.

An even 90 sounds about right. I had my doubts about it until I played the demo.
