I'm sorry but I think come Q4 Banjo could make a big difference. (not that that is the only game but rather the straw that broke.....) But I'm probably bias. Oh and did I say Gears 2.

My problem with the PS3 passing the 360 this year is that in the first 8 weeks of this year the PS3 has made up ~430k WW. With 34 weeks until the end of October the PS3 will make up another ~1.83m at this rate from its current position leaving it still behind the 360 by about ~4.9m. Even if we double that and say it outsells it by 3.66m for the next 34 weeks its still behind by 3.06m.

So even with the unreasonable assumption that it will double the pace its on right now to catch up, this would still leave it too far behind the 360 to catch up during the holidays. Just to cement that a bit for you guys realize that the PS3 sold ~3.4m for all of Nov+Dec in '07. So if you think it can outsell the 360 by over 3m this holiday you're pretty much assuming the 360 won't be on sale this holiday...which of course is very very unlikely.

Sorry folks but the odds are very good that the PS3 is going to be spending the rest of '08 chasing the 360. Come '09 the PS3 will be able to make its run on 2nd place provided it can keep itself on the current track...which is likely.

Actually I did read the article, I was responding to others in the thread (ie 11ht11).

Doomed? Your posts mentions nothing about the Playstation 3 being doomed. In fact, it mentions that it's "poised for a comeback." It's not doomed. Change the title.

That "analyst" is often quoted about video games despite the fact he isn't very accurate...I assume that's the irony meant by the topic thread...or the impending doom that the PS3 was supposedly facing last year. Either way works, but Pachter isn't the greatest mind.
