Forums - Gaming - Did Square Enix test Xbox One sales with FF Type-0?

So I thought the reveal of Type 0 was weird, they just showed a picture and said it was coming to PS4 and XBO during E3. They could have easily announced the game during Sony's E3 conference or even Microsoft's E3 conference but they didn't. It's just weird isn't it?

I think Sony told Square Enix they should test the sales on both the PS4 and XBO, by giving it equal marketing on both consoles so they could see how the sales differed. FF15 is being marketed for PS4 already, but why not Type 0? So when it came down to future games, exclusivity would be easier no?

Now March 2015 NPD sales have finally came out and 79% of Type 0 sales were on PS4 with 21% on XBO, and this was just in America, every other region had to be even lower for XBO no?

Do you think more games from Square Enix will be exclusve too Sony platforms? SO5 and Dissidia are definitely not coming to XBO, maybe because they looked at Type 0 pre orders and saw the same thing.

Also I think it will be easier for other Japanese companies too go exclusive too Sony platforms, either way it just looks bad for Xbox One and Japanese games.

I doubt it. Even with the small amount Type-0 sold on XBO, Square probably thinks it's better than nothing, which would have been the result if there was no XBO version.

Impossible to say that without knowing the costs of porting, QA, marketing etc.

OT, I wouldn't be surprised to see most SE, or JP games, being exclusive to PS4 in the coming years, maybe PS4/PS3 or PS4/PSV. DQXI, if announced for a console, would most certainly not be on Xbone. I would be very surprised if that happened.

Considering how easy and cheap porting between PS4 and XB1 is, that's a nice profit on the XB1 port.

Again, there's simply no way for us to know the cost of porting. It's not as simple as putting 2 programmers and 2 testers on the Xbone version, I can tell you that.

Type-0 HD sold 74k first week on Xbox One according to VGC, that's not bad at all for a spin-off game. It'll probably sell 300k+ lifetime on XB1. FFXV, being a main series game, will probably sell at least 3 times that much, so 900k+ lifetime on XB1. Considering how easy and cheap porting between PS4 and XB1 is, that's a nice profit on the XB1 port.

Type-0 is actually overtracked for both PS4 and XBO in the US.

XBO: 42k < Type-0 < 50k

PS4: Type-0 > 158k

Yes but it wouldn't be hard for Sony to get it, most of the XBO sales can be made up with the fact that it's exclusive so it should have higher sales on PS4 and that it would sell consoles. I mean I don't think the percentage is going to be all that different. And this is just America, I think if we combine all the regions espcially Japan, XBO would be a lot less than 20%.
