I read that there seems to be a genetic predisposition towards fearing people that look different to those you've grown up with, perhaps stemming from our tribal past.

Then there are the various societal and cultural influences, many of which were built up as a justification for imperialism and slavery.

Also, we seem to respond in an exagerated manner to visual clues. If someone looks different on the outside, they must be different on the inside.

These (likely) instincts, of course, don't serve to justify racism in any way, and we all have a responsibility to rise above our own prejudices and instincts, eh white devil?
