You might be calling me crazy right now, but this is my honest prediction. Why, though? Simply because first of all, you can see Nintendo wants to make this game big by subtle things. For instance, the release date. The game releases RIGHT at the start of summer. (Reminds me of ANOTHER WiiU game that was huge and released at the very start of Summer.) 

Another reason is in almost every dirrect or thread of announcements, they show off Splatoon a ton. Think of it, last livestream just days ago talked a decent chunk about Splatoon and had a livestream about it for around 30 minutes as well.

Basically, it seems this is the game by Nintendo they want to make the "system seller" of 2015, same way Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. were the big "system seller" of 2014.

I hope this even surpasses my prediction. Anything is possible with a new IP. Just don't pull a "Watch Dogs" on us nintendo.

I would put that at the optimistic end of the spectrum. Not outside the realm of possibility, but not the most likely outcome.

It certainly has potential to sell a lot, but I thing you're overestimating it.
1M till the end of the year seems possible, but 2M? I don't think so.

I don't see what the obstacle there is for Splatoon to sell. I feel that it is going to be considered one of the mandatory Wii U titles. Maybe not the best, but I feel like Nintendo is going to make something big from this.
