Forums - Gaming - How much do you rely/trust game reviews?

If i had believed on IGN and the 4,9 score on Lair, i would be a happier person

But if i had believed on IGN and that 7,something on Assassin's creed i would be dissapointed with myself

Then i think no, i don't let reviews judge my purchase

For myself I like user made reviews. I read through a bunch but I do follow some guidelines.

- Ignore all professional reviews (too corrupt)
- Read the lowest scores 1st to get an idea what might be wrong with the game
- Ignore any perfect or almost perfect scores (10's & 9.5's)
- Ignore anything less than 500 words long (4-5 long paragraphs) or is made up of gibberish filler words
- Once I find an approriate review, I view the reviewers history to see if their opinions match my own regarding past games I have played.

The more a reviewer has in common with me, the more weight I place in their review be it good or bad. I generally look for at least 3 or so solid reviews and decide from there.

This system has never failed me.

I only read them to know a bit more of the game's contents and I check the score and read why then I judge for myself if I should buy the game or not.

Example: Even if a game gets a 6/10 I might buy it since I like the contents of the game and find that the bad points to not matter to me.

Also I mainly check out IGN since I trust them the most with scores.
