First:
It's just wrong to state that Ronaldinho is average or "the most overrated player today in soccer".
My opinion on the OP's question:
It's a sign of times - FASTER, BIGGER, MORE EXCITING. You can watch a lot of burnouts across the board of great players since the early 90s.
It's no wonder that - for example - Messi is injured now the 2nd time within a few months. The world's top players are overburdened (is this the correct word?) by all their duties like videogame & sportswear advertising, explaining their greatness in interviews, home stories and from time to time they also have to play football and do a little training beforehand.
It's the fault of the players, their management, the teams and the sponsors (Nike decide when and where "their" national teams, e.g. Brazil, play their next friendly matches). Everybody's expecting too much in too little time. Everything's sold out. A sign of the times, like I said.
That's why - in my opinion - all great players waste away their talents within a few years nowadays - @CaptainPrefrences: Let's just see what Christiano Ronaldo & Lionel Messi are doing in 3 years from now (and where they will be playing then).
