Very true. And I'm gonna get like 6 more hours of entertainment when I watch my buddy play....uhm....no that's not the right word...push(?) through it this weekend. And afterwards we're gonna make a video on the devolution of QTEs as a core mechanic in games, contrasting them in Shenmue and The Order.

Should be a hoot.


cant wait for the thread. lets see if you are up to it once it actually releases and people play the game. ill be quoting you on this to see if it holds true.

Exacly. Let's look at Gears Of War:

Average: 9h 12m
Median: 9h
Rushed: 6h 30m
Leisure: 12h 51m
So I guess it was a 6.30 hour game.

Since when have we based a game average time to beat on a speed run?

The average person took about 1hr-1hr 10 min to beat ground zero's / speed run takes 3 min.

Big Difference no?

Anyway, haters are going to hate as usual, but it's funny how The Order is taking fire for reasons never applied on other games.

Short =/= bad if the pacing i good. I mean, it mustn't be *too* short either, but come on. Story-based TPS are always about 10h long. What's the matter all of a sudden ?

I derived the 8-10 hours average playtime from your post. You don't think that's a fair assessment?

Most people do not rush to play a game in order to prove how short it is or to make sure their subscribers don't get bored. 10 - 12 hours represents your normal gamer. The lower times are people with no appreciation of anything but running and gunning through a story driven game with lots of secrets to be found.

No it isn't. You don't judge a game on someone rushing though it, you judge a game on the average time it take to complete it. This is a 10+ hour game. Youtubers never play games like this properly because they fear their viewers won't subscribe or like the next video.

And why you decide the duration of the game? Can you beat it for the first time in 6 hours? Yes, we have seen it (and btw it was not very good to say the least imo) so why you decide that it isn´t the duration? Is the king dressed? Because i´m seen it  nude.

I've seen people beat dark souls 2 in under 1 hour.  What a rip off that game was,right?

Yeah MGS4 was great, and I actually liked the cutscenes...imagine MGS4 without the cutscenes, and trying to keep up with the plot...yeah, better start taking notes, and then go back to the previous games to take further notes to be compiled into a series of novels that explain what the fuck went on.

Yes, because is the same to make a speedrun of a game that you have played like a thousand times than play it for the very first time and beat it on 5:20 hours.

I´m reading so much nonsense on this thread, now any game is short at all, because you can even finish Ocarina on 20 minutes, so now the duration is so so so relative that makes NO SENSE.

It's getting all this attention for that reason.  Haters trying to downplay and fans trying to overplay.
