Skylanders sold over 30 million toys from launch in the fall of 2011 through the first quarter of 2012.  I think they've topped 200 million toys sold up to the end of 2014.  The franchise generated over $2 billion in revenue by the beginning of 2014.  I'm pretty sure that Infinity has similar numbers.

Amiibo is a drop in the bucket in comparison.

This is really where the problem sets in.  Will it turn into an actual revenue stream or will it be an occassional revenue hiccup when new figures release?  Does it have any real shot at growth?  Was the launch the high-water mark?  I'm kind of skeptical of Nintendo's strategy with Amiibo, to be honest, and I'm not sure it will catch on with anyone except die-hard Nintendo fans.  I think it needs its own thing besides being DLC for other games or it will struggle to find mass-market consumer appeal.

Does that mean each person bought 30 useless skylander figures? Because Skylander games don't sell much. Sales are going down year over year, hopefully it will die soon.

Trap Team is over 3 million copies sold.  I don't think it's on life support yet.  And, sure, I bet a lot of kids have multiple figures, just as a lot of Nintendo fans probably bought every Amiibo released.  It's possible that we're only dealing with something like 500k unique owners for Amiibo figures in the US.

Never understood the appeal, only amiibo I'll likely buy is Samus.

But Skylaqnders is just expensive dlc hidden behind dumb figurines of uninteresting characters. Surprising to see so many people fall for it.

I'd love to know what sales of Skylanders and Disney Infinity were over the same time period...

Skylanders was sold to a much bigger userbase.. And this is for 6 weeks..

And it "need" its own thing.. But do you in any way see a e3 2015 where Nintendo don't show that?

Yes, I know Skylanders was sold to a much larger userbase.  I'm pretty sure everyone knows that.

It's Nintendo.  I have no idea what they will do next.  Why would I assume anything?

And theerefor is Amiibo numbers actully good.. (and show a lot of potential)

I don't think you should assume anything.. But I assume that you know that "made for Amiibo" games are comming and we will see "some" latest at e3

I want an Amiibo RPG. That would rock so hard. $$$.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

I know this much: products like this are usually sold for at least 50% profit if possible, as a standard. So if Nintendo sold 2.5 mil at ~$14 making $7 on each, that's $17.5 mil in raw profits in a little over a month with supply constraints and that's just the US. I think that's a good start. And I could be way off, the 50% profit is *very* modest given what we are dealing with. It could be 75% instead which would increase the profits to well over $20mil. from the US alone.

I think that they need a F2P Skylanders-like game. That's what I think.

Don't quote me on this unless I'm right, but that might be Project Treasure.

This would be great and - if done right - the only game that would make me actually buy one of these plastic figurines.

That's more than I expected at the very least.

Smashing sucess. Pun intended.

It's a really good start, it'll be interesting to see how they do over the next few waves and what happens when Smash 3DS gets amiibo support.

Bets:

1. If the Wii U sells closer to 10 million LTD by 1/3/2015 I win. If it sells closer to 9.5 million LTD by 1/3/2015 OfficerRaichu15 wins (winner gets 2 weeks of avatar control)--Lost.
