I know that the alcohol suspends inhibitions and all, but it's like people don't want to be themselves or want to simply forget all their problems.
I just find it strange.

That's cause you have alcohol in place of blood 
Kirby is right. Feeling like shit the next day is most likely caused by something you ate when you were drinking. Not the drinking itself.
