I turned the speaker off and dimmed the light to the lowest setting and I get at least 10 hours of battery life since I have yet to drain the battery I don't actually know how much longer it would last.

This is something that people complain about day one though. I probably saw already 100 times 'your battery is getting low'. DS3 lives longer no?

Xbox one controller isn't really a fair comparision though is it. Doesn't that use standard batteries? Standard (well decent brand) AA batteries hold considerably more charge than a battery in a DS4 will, hence over double the play time. I used to to use a pair of eneloops in my old 360 pad which were rated at 2600mah and they used to give me 25-30 hours between charges which was brilliant. So I expect them same batteries would give similar performance in the One pad today.
Like I said before, mine give over 8 hours play, but even so, there is no denying that the battery is probably one of the lowest capacity that Sony could have found. I'd rather they let us use our own AA if I'm honest.
PREDICTIONS FOR END OF 2015: (Made Jan 1st 2015)
PS4 - 34M - XB1 - 21m - WII U -12M
Both of mine last about 8 hours, but yeah, that's still shitty compared to the DS3.

It's a faulty controller. Mine lasts close to 6 hours and i use it daily. Yes, daily lol. I have 2, one charging and the one i'm using. When one gets empty i change and never run out hehe.
I get about 6 hours.
Pro tip. Get a 2nd controller, and just swap when one gets low.
edit- also to add I have notice they charge really fast, like from 1 bar to full in 30 minutes. So when a take a 10-15 (every2-3 hours) min break I plug in. When I do this my controller never goes below 2 bars.
End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)
Wii- 72 million 3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases
360- 37 million Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak
PS3- 29 million Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut
I get about 6-8 hours I think. I played last night with the controller saying 1 bar, I played for an hour and a half with earphones in and it was still at 1 bar when I stopped playing.
Just do what bigjon mentions above, a 2nd controller is a must anyway for local MP.
Hmm, pie.
What's horrendous is that short cable that comes with it for charging. Even Ninty throws in a cable 3x longer and can be plugged into any outlet.
I prefer batteries or battery packs like the Xbox One controller. I can quickly change batteries and they last much, much longer.
The pro controllers battery life is outstanding, I think I haven't charged it in over 3 weeks now.
I'm getting at least 6 hours. Which is generally long enough. Only thing is I have to put PS4 into rest mode so the controller can charge before I play next. Major bummer is that the controller that came with the PS4 is starting to get wear on the left thumbstick, so now that controller is reserved only for co-op play and the newer controller, hopefully with the improved durability rubber, gets exclusive use for single player siatuations.

DS3 gives around 15 hours. The current DS3 is the second iterarion with longer battery life, a new DS4 version with that improvemnt would be great.
