Forums - Sony - Bloomber article: Sony Shareholders Have Too Much Patience

I can understand the comment pre-reorg, but wouldn't it be stupid as an investor to jump ship before the reorg fully takes form? (I'm not an investor, so I've no idea) Kowen?

So I've just seen the huge dip Digital Cameras has taken over the last couple of years

FY12 - 17m
FY13 - 11.5m
FY14 - 8m (Forecast)

And it's only going to get smaller, to the point of irrelevance surely?

With TV's being a money sink and Phones prooving an ever more challenging market, Sony only really have Playstation and Semi Conductors as viable products.

So we were all wrong. It's not Sony that's doomed. It's all of Japan.

Japan has been doomed for years....

It has worse debt problems than anyone else by far.

The Abe solution is a short term fix that could implode in a very bad way.  I guess he was hoping that big Japanese companies would use the breathing space to cut hard and modernise their ways....  I think in the main he got it worng as they are mostly sitting on their hands.

Not to mention its rapidly aging population and world's lowest birthrate.

What about movies and music? Sony still makes money there.

Not sure how their other divisions are doing, I was talking more about their electronics which is the heart of Sony.

Uh, what?  No it's not.  Without Banking and Insurance, Sony would've been done years ago.  Their financial arm accounted for 63% of their profit in 2012.

I didn't say it was their most profitable, Insurance is not what Sony is really about you know that.

It's what they're about lately.  Without it, there goes ~60% of their profit (Which was being murdered by their TV and PC divisions, and the waning phone business).  We may look at Sony and see electronics, but electronics, movies and music are a pittance of their company right now.

I don't disagree, but Sony is an entertainment and electronic conglomerate not an insurance company, it's the odd one out that is thankfully working out for them.

Lose the entertainment and electronics and you lose the Sony DNA.

Well, honestly, other than Playstation, the rest of Sony electronics are really not doing very well.  It's the obsession with the DNA that's kind of been hurting them all this time.
