Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft is sitting on a precious Rare that still hasn't been used.

First off, Rare was in co-development with KI. Also Conker: Live and Reloaded, Viva Pinata, and Kameo were all great. Though my guess is many here hasnt played them, instead whines about games they havent played when all three of these games can be considered to be some of Rare's best work.

Perfect Dark Zero and Banjo Nuts and Bolts were decent, not amazing.

Lastly Rare is working on two games right now and Im pretty sure Phil Spencer is taking some of their old IP to other studios. YOu dont like Kinect Sports?  Well Phil doesnt seem to either.  Give them time for their next game(s)

Looking through the comments, op just seems to be searching.....

Microsoft just completely ruined Rare. That's a big reason why I don't like Microsoft.

Beat-em-ups just aren't as big as they were in 1991.Sorry to burst your bubble dude.

What is wrong with U? nuts and bolts is one of the worst games ever.

it is the one turd from rare.

the rest of te games is okay, not rares highpoint, but that is only natural, u cant pump out the highest level of quality for 20 years if u have so much change in the company.

and on topic, pls yes, but 2d.

Thats is highly exagerative.  It is a good game, just not what Banjo fans wanted.  For a spinoff it was good though.

its a realy bad game. and its the worst game rare ever made.

Let Rare die in peace.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

I don't understand this comment. Since when does Microsoft suck at developing games?

Even Rare themselves have developed good games in the last 5 years, even if they are not games the market particularly wants. They may not be fantastic or like in the Nintendo years, but in Viva Pinata, Nuts and Bolts, Perfect Dark Z and Kameo they have made a wide set of very solid titles.

It simply isn't true to say that either Microsoft, or even Rare particularly, sucks at developing games. All those games I just mentioned have scored as well or better than the most recent entries from Sony's first party (though not Nintendo's). Does Sony have better games than its recent ones? Sure. But so does Microsoft.

MS has never been spoken about by the gaming media as a top game developer outside of Forza, Fable and for buying Halo. Their first party has never truly ever been praised by anyone.

The best Rare game since Microsoft owned them imho has been killer instinct and I think they made the right move opting for two outside devs to develop the title. MS will end up getting higher rated titles by getting outside devs to develop for them in my opinion this gen. Gets more games made in a shorter amount of time.

I never said that Rare sucked. I've said in the past that Rare is not what they used to be nor does MS run them properly, but I agree that MS is on a goldmine of IP's and should start shelling out IP's to the top developers with proper budgets. Hell. After Killer Instinct...I truly believe thats the best route since it has worked so well for this gen.

Thats like saying Sony has never been spoken about as a top game developer outside of GT, Uncharted and...what...Santa Monica for the God of Wars of old maybe? Team Ico once upon a time?

Its a wholly unreasonable way to look at this. In reality Sony has developed a tonne of mid-level games, and funded or arranged for plenty of third party developed but Sony-exclusive hits. So has Microsoft.

Microsoft develops, funds and publishes games of high quality on a consistent basis. As often as Sony does and then some these days. Praising Halo, praising Killer Instinct, praising Forza, praising Fable - all of these statements are praising Microsoft for its development, funding decisions and publishing skills.

And no, others in this thread said that Rare sucked. Whilst I agree they have not been producing the unreproachable hits of old, they have had plenty of very good titles in the last few years - Microsoft more generally has had a tonne of them.

The notion that Microsoft's first party publishing and development is somehow subpar is completely outdated.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

I read the posts on this thread for the laughs. You shouldn't even bother.

I mean people claim that MS didn't know if Rare owned Donkey Kong or not after they bought them.

I mean I thought a big corporation like MS, would at least check all Rare's asset before they acquired them. Hell, even ask somebody at Rare if they own DK if they really wanted it.

I know how people are.

However as for DK MSFT actually did originally think that was a part of Rare.  When they went to meet Rare they had seen pictures and cardboard cut outs of Donkey Kong at Rare's office so they had originally thought it was a part of them.  However, once the deal was made Im sure they already knew it wasnt, though we dont know that part of the subject.

To this day DKC and DKL has been confusing.  It was only just now that NIntendo were finally able to bring them to Eshop (unknown if there was actually a deal with Rare and MSFT to do this).  Also enemies disappearing like King K Rool and the crocs can be attributed to the same conversation as all that work was created by Rare and not Nintendo.  Because all that DKC has been a confusing subject for over a decade

There isnt too many people who knows more about Rare than I do, or at least on VGC.  The part that aggravates me is the bashing of Rare even when they do make good games (Kameo, Conker, Viva Pinatas, etc) yet never even played them.
