Forums - Gaming - Wii U Is Dead? Not If Nintendo Buys Unity- I guess Unity is looking for a buyer?

This is the dumbest thing I've read in a while. Unity being a Nintendo only engine would destroy any value it has. Nobody would benefit from this acquisition.

Around the Network

So your idea simply put is, Nintendo buys Unity, they make a clause that says there has to be a Wii U version, then they create a Indie development program for every day people?

I'm in the crowd of people who just skimmed over your post

Thus another engine will rise voiding it pointless.

Also whilst Nintendo could afford it, that is a huge chunk of what they have in the bank. Especially when they're not making good profits.

Not what he said. He seems to be saying Buy unity and keep it running the way it is... But then, for unclear reasons, this will beinfit Nintendo because devs will be more likely to consider a wii u version of games.

Well, if Nintendo were to buy Unity, they'd have to treat it a lot differently than they treat their other assets.

Specifically, they can't make Unity exclusive to their platforms. That would kill it. They could, however, make it even easier to port PC Unity games to Wii U, and require Wii U ports for all Unity games. That would be a weird ultimatum, it might negatively impact Unity in a big way, but it also might result in a LOT more indie games coming to Wii U.
