Forums - Gaming - How would you score Destiny so far?

About a 9/10. I think the reason most people are seeing it so negatively is because they expected it to be a different type of game than it is. It's a loot game so of course missions are gonna be repetitive especially since it had mmo elements too. Now I do agree the loot is a little lackluster, but at least rare items are rare

So far, I'm really enjoying it. I've only played it for 5-6 hours, but I had fun every single minute of those. And I haven't even finished Earth missions yet.

- One thing that keeps me busy are bounties. After playing through the first few missions and leveling up to 5, I started doing those instead of progressing further. They shiwed me so many different patrol missions, gave me incentive to play a bit differently than I normally would.
- They even enticed me to play PvP, which I swore I would not touch, because I generally dislike that, but so far I'm having a lot if fun playing Control, and I managed to actually not suck at it. I see myself repeatedly returning to PvP to have fun and to earn rewards.
- My favorite part is customization, so many choices to outfit your character, and they made it so your choices actually impact your gameplay, so I can cusomize my character to suit my playing style.
- I can see myself sinking 100s of hours into this game, and it will probably be November before I even finish the narrative part, I'm in no hurry to progress even to the Moon. With bounties constantly refreshing, the game offers a lot of variety and incentives.
- I haven't even played a single strike, raid or public event. Those will add to my playing time considerably.

Things I don't like, which lead me to inevitable comparisons to Borderlands:
- Scarce loot, especially chests. It seems that, unless you purposely go out of your way, they are nowhere to be found. An occasional chest standing in your path would be welcome.
- Enemies drop only bullets, very very rarely anything else. I understand the need to not devalue loot, but a rew more rewards, especially from tougher enemies.
- No memorable characters. I'd prefer missions and bounties being spread out to a variety of characters, this way feels too automatic and bland. Could have been just a message board instead of a dull cardboard cutout standing there. I know this isn't BL, but I fell in love with that game in big part due to characters and humor.
- What's the point of the spaceship? Maybe I haven't gotten that far yet, but right now it just serves as a visualization of a loading screen. Why bother upgrading it, or doing anything with it at all?

So far, I love it, and the score is a measure of my having fun with the game, which is a solid 9.5/10 so far, meaning that I play it more than I'm supposed to, and that I feel bad when I need to turn it off so I can catch some sleep.

With two friends - 8.5/10

Alone - Don't purchase

Graphics 8/10 - Very clean, fairly detailed but also very uninspired, uninviting, and nothing except for the sky makes you go wow.

Sound quality 7.5/10 - nothing to complain about but nothing that stands out either. I have a pretty good Klipsch surround sound setup worth about $2000 and can tell games that sound amazing and the run of the mill. This sounds ok.

Music 8.5/10 - it's very good, better than most games but doesn't evoke any strong sense of emotion or adrenaline like Halo

Gunplay 9/10 - it's excellent, would be perfect at 60 FPS though

Gameplay (level design, missions, etc) 5/10 - Shoot your way to A, protect...over and over again all game but it's fun with friends

Story 3/10 - This isn't a deep and gripping adventure despite all the potential for something epic

Versus 7.5/10 - It's fine, but better can be had elsewhere

FunFactor (hello gamepro:) 9/10 with two buddies - 4/10 alone

hmm with two friends can be applied to any game really and it will be fun TBH.

I personally got the game to play the single player mode more so than online due to time restrictions. Haven't put it in yet as busy with work. Hoping the 4/10 does not reflect how I feel, otherwise will be dissapointed.

I'm seeing mostly average scores in this thread so far. How many of you played the beta? I sunk several hours into the game, even though the beta capped out at level 8.

I bought the game based on my experience with that, not hype. After playing the beta missions and playing the strike mission with friends, I viewed the game as 9/10 potential, since the full game was gonna be beta + more. Now, I'm playing the game and some of the story missions have been expanded a little and there's even more patrol missions....on the first patrol map. And I have access to the moon and will soon have other planets. And I haven't even touched the Crucible.

All they've done is make Earth/Crucible better, and based on just those, I thought Destiny was a really great game from the beta (which was the overwhelming opinion on VGC back in July). Now there's more stuff? And people are saying the game is just "ok" now? Ok.

i liked more the beta than the final version so far

Stopped reading there. You say you'll play a 4/10, a BAD game for several months? Sorry, bro, not buying it.

4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

i Bought Destiny digital guardian edition... because hype.

yeah i fell for it, and now i feel sorry. should'nt have spend that much.

......

worth $60 not $90

I understand you fell for the hype, but I never understood people paying for those season passes upfront just to save $5-10 six months later.

Of course it's not worth $90, because you have a $60 game on your HDD. The other $30 will come in December and March, and perhaps then your purchase will be justified, as you'll have $100 worth of content.

Played around 5-6 hours, up til now I'd give it a solid 8/10. Certainly not a masterpiece, but pretty fun either way.

What holds it back is lack of content, there simply isn't all that much to do. It is apparent that Activision cut up the game to make more money from expansions, which is sad. On the other hand, I absolutely love the gameplay and RPG mechanics.

Hmm. I actually considered reserving the PS4 white with Destiny about three weeks ago... At first I thought that "This is a game to buy another console for"...

Is it?

God no.
