Two million downloads will bring about a console version.

Terra Battle, the upcoming smartphone RPG from Final Fantasy series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, will consist of a 30-chapter story, this week’s Famitsu reveals.

Even after clearing the story, players will be able to continue leveling up their characters and doing battle with powerful enemies.

Battles take place atop an eight-by-six game board. The objective is to clear all enemies that appear. During their turn, players will have four seconds to freely move around the game board.

Being a free-to-play game, micro-transactions are in place. Users can opt to pay for additional “Energy,” which can be used for stamina recovery, additional continues, and for the in-game gacha.

Additionally, Sakaguchi announced that the game will evolve through a new “Downloadstarter” campaign. It’s essentially a Kickstarter, but rather than gather money for new features, they will instead be added based on the game’s number of downloads. Here’s the timeline:

  • 100,000 downloads – New compositions by Nobuo Uematsu added.
  • 200,000 downloads – New characters by Hideo Minaba debut.
  • 300,000 downloads – Manga artist Nakaba Suzuki brought on board.
  • 1 million downloads – Terra Battle concert held.
  • 1.4 million downloads – Figure production started.
  • 2 million downloads – Console version development started.

Terra Battle is due out for smartphones in Japan this October.

Wouldn't buy it. Sakaguchi doesn't appear able to make proper console games anymore so people should waste money on his new failure games regardless of what they release on.

Did you even play The Last Story?? That game was awesome, he clearly still has talent. He simply sees where the Japanese market is going.

Really dont want to support this since they will only make more mobile games.

BUT if they dont get any money then they really wont make any console games anytime soon.

Another lose-lose situation.

Yeah, this makes absolutely no sense.  Then again, they could just continue developing for phones without even offering console gamers a bone, so at least it's something.

I know there's a lot of people out there who wish Mistwalker were still walking on console JRPG's.  Maybe Microsoft or Nintendo will sign them up again.

Thats the thing. Mistwalker cant take the risk of a big console game without a backer and so far it seems nothing good has shown up for him. Until then its mobile games for all
