Here's how combat works in Eve. You figure out what range you want to engage the enemy at, plug it in, and the computer tries to keep you at that range. Then, you get to toggle weapons and devices on and off until you win.

Most boring combat system ever. It's not a space flight sim, it's a space accountant sim.

I see. No wonder they suck in userbase size.

Yeah. EVE Online is very cool, but it is very much not a space combat sim. It is an MMORPG.

Yeah, I should mention that their economy is probably the most sophisticated in any MMO (hence my why my pet name for it is Space Accountants) and it's also very impressive that all users play on a single server cluster. So the game does have its highlights.

Aw, man! I only got to play the demo for Freespace 2! Anybody know where I can find a real copy, online or off? I really want to play it! :(

The license agreement for FS2 allows you to copy the game. Seriously. It does. Also, Volition has released the source code to the game, since THQ didn't buy the license from Interplay when they bought Volition. This has led to the creation of the Freespace 2 Source Code Project, which has updated the graphics engine considerably.

I actually acquired my copy of the game at Big Lots in 1999 for $10. I couldn't believe my good fortune at finding what I consider to be a AAA title for that price in the same year as the game was released.

Yea, I have that. Refreshing to see it looking more modern instead of all muddy.
