Dude, stop letting him lead you around. The whole premise is too ridiculous to be serious. No believes a Robin Williams NPC is going to translate to a meaningful amount of sales.

The game is acessible for free, its called free game trial, not that this has anythign to do with anything cause if the trial didnt exist it would make absolute no sense to make the tribute acessible for free, do you even understand what WoW (or any subscription based MMO for that matter) is and how it works ? Its not like its a segmented thing were you can acess 1 part of it for free, its a world, literally a world and you pay to have acess to this world. And if all you want to do is see the NPC cause you realy liked the person than get your trial see him and never log back into WoW (be warned the game client is massively hughe even if its just for the free trial).

I've been playing games since you were still in diapers. I played WoW from open beta all the way up to the Mists of Panderia expansion. I understand perfectly how it works. Something you honestly can't say for yourself since you obviously don't understand a subscription is a paywall. It would be different if you could access his NPC in a newb area or anywhere you could during that very short trial but you can't.

The trial is permanent, you just cant pass level 20 and its more than lieklly hell be on Orgrimmar and/or Stormwind. But this post explained al, youre a veteran woW player who doesnt liek the direction the game took in the last few years/ xpacs. I played WoW from BC to start of MIsts, stopped cause of real life dont allowing enought time anymore, Ive seen enought of your type to understand the reasoning behind this post, there used ot be a dozen post in this vein proclaming how Blizzard is Evil and wanted to sdestroy the playerbase and milk ppls money dailly on WoW forums. This pretty much settles everything, at least I know youre not crazy just a hatter.

The only one so far that has said Blizzard is evil is you. You are so blinded bt your bias that you don't even understand the point. They are profiting off his likeness, that is a fact, He is behind a paywall, that is a fact. Does that make Blizzard evil? No it just mkaes them greedy dicks just like every corporation. I get it you love them but ya gotta start accepting things for what they are and stop deluding yourself.

Oh, seriously, come off the 'Because you're not on my side, you're biased towards Blizzard' cop-out, cause in my case, it comes from 'I actually think Robin Williams might have made enough of an impact on people to inspire some folks to WANT to do this' bias, not 'Blizzard is full of angels and pixie dust' bias. If you think he didn't have enough of an impact to warrant the developers wanting to do this, fair enough, but don't project that on everyone else.
I haven't even PLAYED WoW in years, (legitimately got bored before I even hit level cap, never even picked up an expansion) and I think you're bending backwards to make a mountain out of a molehill on some one-man crusade. This isn't the first time they've done a tribute to an individual, as there have been NPCs who've in some way memorialized fallen players, developers, or friends of developers. If the assumption here is that, because he's a celebrity, he should be given some form of preferential treatment, then again, I'm assuming you agree that Nintendo should never, ever, ever, ever make any kind of tribute to him in a Legend of Zelda game. Because, you know. It'll be behind a paywall too!

Do you know where the robin williams npc is going to be? If he is anywhere in the free portion of the game (main wow or burning crusade) it obviously wouldnt be behind a paywall.
if it isnt, i still wouldnt consider it a cash grab. I cant imagine anybody that would actually pay money just to go visit an npc character in an mmo. That would be a waste of time and money even for the biggest robin williams fan. Seems more like a tribute to the man and an easter egg for the current player base. The premise of this threads seems overly dramatic to me...

We should just leave him be man, were wasting our time, I obviously wasted way more time answering to this than I should have.

Simply giving an opinion and an observation. Obviously tho some people have read too much into it and got upset about it. I just think they should give some money openly away for charity as well.

| Nicklesbe said: The hell it doesn't. A paywall is a paywall and it is behind one.You can't see Robin Williams tribute without going through that pay wall. The reason they were inspired to do it in the first place was because of that American consolate employee that played EvE online. EvE can be played for absolutly free. After they made that tribute it increased their user base by a considerable ammount. WoW has a pay wall and they just increased the price, if you read the forums they are considering raising the price everywhere. It absolutly does count and unless they want to offer people the ability to see that tribute without having to pay then they are exploiting his death and making money off it because just like with EvE it will give them a boost. If it didn't then they probably wouldn't be increasing the subscription cost. |
So what you are saying is they should make WoW free or not honor him at all?
Do you know how ridiculous that sounds?
