I went there!
Just a bunch of poorly made survival horror games that try their best to emulate the success and story of Silent Hill 2.

I'd say Homecoming tried for something different, especially since no Silent Hill had deal previously with the "brothers" theme. Alex, unfortunately, was way too OP to cope in Silent Hill, and that quickly decreased the power of the atmosphere.
Downpour on the other hand relies on Silent Hill 1 & 2, especially with the father trait and James Sunderland's clothes. But I'd say the free roaming through Silent Hill is one of the highlights of the whole series.
That's my two cents, though :P

5 Platforms doesn't mean increased sales... Rayman Legends for example, was on 6 platforms but only sold 1.36 million. Silent Hill sales have been going down with virtually every itteration and even though this one looks epic, I still think its not gonna sell more than 2 million but if it does, great!
PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850
Downpour wasn't very good but it wasn't bad either. Kinda rekindled some hope for the franchise. I hope this one lives up to 1-4

Well Homecoming literally lifted the plot twist and the enemy design from Silent Hill 2. So did Downpour in one of it's endings.
Let's not forget that Downpour's Bogeyman is the exact same idea as Pyramid Head with a diffferent mask and clothing.
Homecoming actually had some really good moments. The first time you arrive in Shephard's Glen was pretty creepy and the music was outstanding as always. I just found the story and gameplay to be terrible.
But yeah, I'm just rather bitter that the series was left in the hands of Tomm Hulett and his merry band of Silent Hill 2 obsessed droogs. :P

You forget Silent Hill is rather niche. Even with Kojima and Del Toro behind, it would be pretty bizarre if this new entry sells more than 2 million units.

Well, I'd say if you compare the games to what the first four Silent Hill games did, they can come out as mediocre. If you look them as another chapter in Silent Hill, even with the heavy relies on past games, I'd say they can stand on their own.
I agree that gameplay might be the worst part of Homecoming, but again that's because of how overkiller Alex is in combat.

I can see where you're coming from and I respect that, but my main problem with the games is their unoriginality and the fact that they betray the series canon and mythology very very often xD

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories betrays everything you knew about Silent Hill 1, and I still think the final plot twist is one of the most unexpected things I've ever come across.
But yes, I do agree with you that retconning is never any good.

Although to be fair Shattered Memories was more of a "what if" rather than a genuine installment in the series. I'm cool with that kind of thing.
