Forums - Gaming - Dat Nintendo Cash Grab!

So, I've noticed a few "self-righteous" Nintendo gamers vindictively criticizing the Last of Us Remaster's price. In response to that, I made this little thread to see if their concerns have any sincerity to them. Yes, I am referring to The Wind Waker HD. And No, I'm not making a direct comparison to TLoU:R but instead to something more comparable. The Sony HD Collections..

The Wind Waker was an absolutely gorgeous game that I wasn't fortunate enough to play for more than 60 minutes on Gamecube. So I'm totally buying the HD version when I get my Wii U one day. But.. correct me if I'm wrong, I didn't see any issues within the Nintendo community in regards to this "HD Remaster" costing about 3X more than Sony's HD Remasters! (Not to mention Square's, Konami's and Capcom's too!) That's right, "Greedy" Sony's HD Collections retailed at $40 in comparison to WWHD's $60(?) Hence each Collection had at least two games in one pack (3 in the case of Sly Cooper). So what is it exactly that warrants the ridiculously higher Nintendo pricing? is it just them openly taking advantage of the fanbase's loyalty and appreciation? or is it something else?

Why do gamers accept Nintendo's tradition of rehashing games at almost full price? Personally, I'm mostly indifferent since they don't force their games down my throat and the high price may translate to weaker sales. But shouldn't I remain consistent and treat Sony the same way in case they made a similarly "Evil" move?

Anybody remember this post?

Let's, myself included, get back on track.  Want to debate the WWHD issue, make a new thread.

It can't be a full on remake if they didn't full on remake the game. They remade parts of it, touched up parts of it, but they didn't full on remake it.

Do you consider The Last of Us a remake? Because it got the same treatment as WW HD. If not even more, since it was ported from the Cell to the x86 architecture in the PS4, which are both very different. Unlike the Wii U, which is based on the same PPC architecture as the GameCube and the Wii. But for some reason, one is a remaster, and the other isn't?

The entire game wasn't remade. Most of the original code is still there. You are confusing things here. Updating parts of a game doesn't make it a remake. Otherwise, God of War Collection, Flower, Journey and Ico collection would be remakes. But I'm quite sure you don't consider them as such.

Do you consider the Special Edition of the first Star Wars trilogy as remakes? After all, they up-resed the movies, added a few things here and there, updated the audio and visual fidelity... Surely, it's a remake.

Same game engine.  A remake doesn't require the game engine be rebuilt from scratch.  That's a waste of resources in game development.

You think Resident Evil on GC used a completely rewritten game engine from the original game?

Shinji Mikami apparently stated that remake is 70% different than the original, which has to include the done graphics, cutscenes, audio and all the gameplay changes. Which includes the new areas added, more movement options, gameplay elements and puzzle changes. If that's only "70% remade" then how can you say that WW HD is a complete remake? Especially when apparently, it took them 6 months to develop WW HD, and as far as I know most of textures and characters models are the same as they were in the GC version, but in HD, and the audio too. As for gameplay, except for the Triforce Quest, a few tweaks to items like the Picto Box, new items like the Swift Sail and Tingle Tuner and Hero Mode, what is different?

Please stop. You have not played. Play first and then post.

I played Wind Waker on my Gamecube, in 1080p on Dolphin, and the HD remaster on my Wii U. Do I qualify? ¬_¬
