333mhz apperantly. Which is kinda of a pain since the one I ordered was 400 mhz. So I might return it.

@Fazz

This guy says I have an AGP. Don't know if its bullshit or not.

I'm thinking of getting this one since its 333mhz.

Should I or should I stick with my 1gb 400mhz one.

Ok I'm mainly a console gamer; the last time I had a gaming quality pc was when vampire the masquerade: Redemption came out. Anyway I got a new computer in 2005 because my old shit box crapped out on me. It was an emachines t3990 which came with as you might expect pretty low grade parts but hey it was cheap and the cpu could be worse I guess. There was one problem however the ram they gave was defective and instead of being 256 it was like 238. So recently it started becoming a problem and so I ordered a gig of ram but one my friends said I shouldn't both of them in my Computer at the same time because my 256 will slow the other one down. It that true?

BTW if people are wondering how I play games that require pixel shader I use a program called 3D Analyze.

16mb is probably taken out of the system RAM and shared for the video.  256-16=238...  So it's not defective, just that you have cheap video.

As for the question about the memory, it depends on your chipset, and the speed and type of DIMMs you will be mixxing.  Some motherboards you can mix memory without a performance hit, and some you will have a performance hit.  Typically, it's best to do identical DIMMs in groups of either 2 or 4 (sometimes more with servers).  Some motherboards, it makes no difference at all.  Your best answer is to read the motherboard manual.

1) It sounds like you need to build a new system if you purchased low-end parts 3-years ago. If you need help then post a price range and expectation (ie if you need a new OS, monitor, mouse/keyboard, speakers, or just bare-bones tower etc..).

2) Yes the faster ram will be clocked down to the speed of your slower RAM. Think of your RAM as a white-board and the clock speed as the passage of time...it would be weird if you were writing down the middle and the writing on the left half was appearing slower than the writing on the right half. And potentially someone could miss-read what was wrote..etc...Thats the basic idea of whats going on anyways.

Pc gaming is so expensive, a new graphics card needs to be purchased to play the latest games every 6 months.

exagerate much? If you're an avid gamer and buy alot of games, PC gaming actually ends up being cheaper than Xbox 360 or PS3

 Really?  How do you figure that? The 8800 line is still regarded as the best on the market more than a year later with many people still using the 7800 line as an extremely viable alternative at more than 2 years old?

Just because some people feel the need to ALWAYS buy the newest and the best as soon as it comes out doesn't mean its required to play the latest games.
