I would rather shove toothpicks in my eyes than watch 90% of anime.

If I want an overly-convoluted plot that throws every conventional storytelling aspect out the window in favor of showing random visual shit to the viewer, features angst-ridden children and gratuitous panty shots, and pretends to have depth while actually being about as deep as the shallow side of the gene pool from whence it came, I'll watch some MTV on mute while reading bad fan fiction aloud.

I know your not talking about anything miyazaki made.

Agreed, there are many anime that fall under the categories you describe, but there is plenty of anime that has a great story, action/drama/humour.
Kanon 2006 is a good example.
