I'm well aware that many credit Nintendo as the company that saved Western gaming. My question is do you believe the Sega Genesis, Sony PlayStation, or Microsoft XBOX could've done the same. Other than maybe the Genesis I highly doubt any company could've. But let's look at what happened because of Nintendo. Sega might have never made Sonic the Hedgehog, since he was supposed to be a bullet shot at the mascot Mario, thus the Genesis would've never been saved. PlayStation wouldn't of existed because Nintendo basically created it. Plus by 1995 I think the industry would've been so wrecked it would've avoided America by that point. Especially with the XBOX. Microsoft wouldn't of ventured into a non-existant industry almost 20 years after the crash, no matter how much money they had. Well you guys tell me what you think.

It would have happened. Voids get filled. If there is a market, someone will try their hand at it. That there was a market was obvious. It's not even like gaming died, as arcades were booming. Japanese electronics companies were beginning to hit their stride, as well.

It wouldn't have been Sega, Sony, or Microsoft, but someone would have done it.

You know, with things like this, what usually will intend to happen is that the fans will say blah company would have taken their place and u know, I think they are right, blah company would have taken their place but the thing that I always think about is that, would it be better? And most of the time, I think not...

Its like, would PCs be better if Microsoft didn't exist and Apple was the leader of the industry? I would say HELL NO, just look at their prices at their website! And they do that when they have competition, imagine what they would be like if they didnt! And thats usually the logic I use

So I think, yes, Sony/MS/Sega could have saved the gaming industry but I think the fact that Nintendo saved it is better for all of us because it is Nintendo that betrayed Sony is one of the big reasons ps1/ps2/ps3 had these quality games cause if u looked at all the history videos, Sony wouldn't have allowed the playstation brand to even exist without that betrayal (and a few other things)

The industry would have eventually bounced back. Whether it would have been in 2 more years or 10 is debatable but with the advancement of computers and given that the crash only had lasted a couple years it's not like we were in a perpetual death state.

yes, Sony did it in the ps1 era

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

There was no video game market crash in Japan, it was a lively market backed by arcade, in Europe computer came quite quickly to fill the void (Amstrad, Atari, etc.). I really do think this void would have been filled whatever happens.

Whatever happens, more powerful and less expensive devices were coming, people wanted to play games. PC would still be there, someone would have think about making a new console. That's sure Nintendo had such a tremendous impact and lead that for what I call details, about everything would be different : consoles, console names, games, gamepad, game market timeline, etc. But the whole picture would not be so different : a massive global market, high tech console, a few constructors, and a lot of studios.

Short answer; No

Long answer; Maybe
As long as there is a demand for games someone would have 'saved' the industry, but it would have been less quality than what had transpired.

Sony did save the industry... from Nintendo, and when they did, publishers, developers and gamers loved them for it.

No because Nintendo(with a tiny bit of help from compettition) saved the industry BEFORE Sony and MS consoles existed.

Sega? possibly...though it always seemed to sell much less than Nintendo's.
