Forums - Gaming - Rise of AA / A games

Not every game has to be AAA. Then again, in the good old days games didn't all cost $60. Nor did consoles cost $400+ or did we have to pay for online services. What these publishers/platform holders don't get, is that when you ask more of a gamer, then the gamer will in return demand more from you. Thats the AAA conundrum.

If they can make smaller titles like SotC, ZOE, Sly cooper, LBP, Child of light, journey....etc and price them at $20-$40, then those will serve as a great alternative to AAAing everything. When you tell gamers to spend $60 on every game they buy, then you should know that collectively they wil buy less games than ever before.

But things are so messed up now, if you aren't a platform holder who makes money from royalties, subscription fees and their own published games, then you pretty much have to be profitable entirely off gaming portfolio. When you consider that most of these publishing houses have dev studios over 2000 ppl strong, it starts to paint a very very grim picture.

AA games that comes to my mind are little big planet 3, sunset overdrive. Driveclub could have been in this categoty but I think it has gained AAA status due to prolonged development time and cost. Future of AA / A games seems bright.

I thought the same thing lmao.
