Also why compare a 2000+ PC to a 400 console? who is doing this?  A 600 dollar PC kicks the PS4s but already  a 500 dollar PC also can if you know what you are doing and you know what hardware to buy etc.

Same reason people compare the WiiU to the PS3/360, or the Vita to a 3DS; they're all consoles. They are marketed against each other and thus people will naturally compare them. Doesn't make it right, but it has more grounding in reality than the PC comparisons do.

Fps_d put it well "Buy a £350 PC today and it might just match it on performance, but a year or two later, that same PC will get destroyed by the PS4, but PC gamers dont want to look at that anymore, they will just come up with another PC spec on that day and just assume everyone who bought their PC today can get that upgrade for free... and it will continue to happen for every single year the PS4 is out."

The PS4/X1/WiiU will continue to be optimized and push out better visuals every year. A PC won't. Unless you buy a higher end PC you get fucked over pretty quickly by newer games. Watch Dog's had a minimum requirement of 6GB of RAM and a 1GB DX11 GPU lol. If you want to match the performance of multi-plats on a PS4/X1 (let alone run them at settings comparable to the visuals of their exclusives) in 3 - 4 years time you will either need to upgrade later on or buy a much stronger PC now. Either way, you're looking at a considerably higher cost to do the same thing.
