Wait, they can't go in the water? Why? or is there something to do with salt and fresh water?

"They tend to prefer salt water due to the fact that there are so many species found in the major oceans out there. Yet there are plenty of freshwater locations where they survive as well. All of the species of giant squid though are to be found in saltwater oceans only."

So it may be the case inklings are the type to not like freshwater. Perhaps they are human-squid hybrids that are most adapted to dry land, have lost their adaptations to water, wear clothes, and shoot at each other with ink?
