Isn't it supposed to be mainly a 4v4 multiplayer fest?  Perhaps there might be a single player story but to me it looks like the characters are vague because it is mainly a 4v4 mulitplayer game.  It seems like you asking for a backstory for a multiplayer focused game.  Perhaps if they allowed the use of Miis then you would feel more attached?

Great concept really. Probably one of the best things that happened to shooters since Garden Warfare.

This was essentially my thought.  It looks cute, I guess, but it kind of looks like a glorified mini-game that you could find in nintendoland or mario party.

Like someone said, it's a versus multiplayer game. It's about the gameplay and the strategy. There is no story, no character development.

After watching the treehouse presentation of it, the game looks more strategic and fun.

Nintendo Threehouse is currently streaming the game; I don't know how you could possibly compared this to a Mario Party minigame.
