Here is another on from Sega V.R. U.S. Debut @ 1993 Summer CES.

Sega was the best back then.
I was 33 years old back then and saw it with adult eyes and thougt it was amazing. I thought that graphics and computer physics would not get much better than in Waverace 64!

Sorry about this but it was so much fun looking back at the VR craze of the early ninties. Everyone knew this was the future and they would make so much money.
This video is partly in swedish but you will see how serious everyone was about it.

Last one!
I conviced my wife to go to London partly because I, and my boys, wanted to go to Sega World. We went there 1997 and it sure was a fun place. Me and my boys where very happy.

Morpheus looks further along than I expected. Exciting stuff, looks great already, very responsive.
I don't really understand the point of that camera, can't it simply take the picture with everything in focus. There are plenty ways to simulate dof afterwards. Seems like a waste of storage.

You are abuot the same age I was when the first VR hype was big. As arcade halls was plentiful in those days it seemed to be a good economic model for earning a lot of money. I bet you remember how good it looked and how cool everything was. I guess you were in your early teens? I as an adult did not doubt that this was the future. But it faded away slowly. When I saw the Occulus Rift I thought that this is old news.Maybe it will be successful this time with Facebook backing it. Back then it also got big backing, by Sega and others.

Anti social while playing with someone else? The same was said about online multiplayer and we know how wrong that was. Clumsy/uncomfortable, this is not the final product, so judgement should be reserved. Expensive, so are the PS4/Xbone/Smartphones and those are selling well should you have missed it. Holding two controllers is a matter of personal preference and the support will come. I'm also sure you can come up with more reasons, but will they mean anything? I doubt that. |
Nice way to open the discussion... You know people's oppinion may differ from yours and it mean something to them (and others who share it)...
As far as the anti-social, it is, I believe, more anti-social than a Kinect or Move game where at least you can see the face (and eyes) of your friends while playing with it... While this thing can be used for more 'hardcore' online mulitiplayer game, I believe it will be mainly used for casual games and single player experience. For SP, it is okay but for casual MP game, I don't know... I really feel that Kinect/Move/WiiU games will be way more enjoyable because you can see the other person for real while playing.
It also seems to be very unconfortable and holding 2 controllers is not a only a preference but a must in my oppinion to have the complete experience. It is like playing games without the nunchuck on Wii, yes you can but it is not as fun as the complete package.
As far the price, while I would buy this thing day 1 :) I effectively believe that it will be the main issue and will slow down the adoption by far.

Yeah because a VR headset powered by computer 0.001% as powerful as the phone in my pocket is totally going to do a good job right? I don't respect opinions like these because they are not based on anything reasonable.
Would you like a list of technological applications that were discarded due to the exact same reasoning as you've applied here? That's rhetorical because I don't want to discuss this with someone who uses "back in my day" arguments.
And my age has nothing to do with it. I've used OR - and looked at the source code that came along with it. I literally just finished a 2 year study of a C++ toolkit used at the most notable research facilities in the world. It is not unreasonable for me to claim that I am in step with technology and computers.
This technology is new, exciting and offers incredible possibilities. I know this for a fact - economic success or not. So I have no need to listen to this "old man talk".
I hope ppl dont waste time developping for this crap, just keep giving us non gimmicky great games Sony we dont need another one of these "inovative"stupiditys that will divert the focus of Sonys first partys.
Also thatll cost a fortune, 2 move controllers + PS Eye + the Headset its gona be more expensive tham a brand new PS4.
