I can agree with Snow and Vanille being one-dimensional in the whole game. |
Why was Lightning such a bitch to begin with? Hope will break down and cry every 15 minutes and he wanted to kill Snow because her mother made a choice and died? The group didn't even have a goal, I remember every character from FFX like it was yesterday.
I agree Sazh was good.

Hah! I like how no matter if people disagree with XIII, love it or bash it, everyone seems to like Sazh!

@people saying the combat was the best part of FFXIII. I disagree as it was mostly Auto battle. The soundtrack was probably the best, even bad games can have a good soundtrack. |
Actually, this is a perfect example of what I was talking about. The auto battle was completely optional, you can just switch it to manual. You don't see people hating on GTAV, Red Dead Redemption, Watch Dogs, Metal Gear Solid V because of the auto-aiming option, do you?
Edit: In Watch Dogs you can't even turn the auto-aim off, only reduce its effect..

Most people who have played Final Fantasy 13 hate the game, most of them I'd assume are Final Fantasy fans, meaning that a good majority of them are also Final Fantasy 10 fans. Now Final Fantasy 13 has a lot of problems, from the auto battle combat system, the the mostly unlikeable characters, to the confusing story, terrible equipment system, and crappy dialogue. Last and what you hear most people talk about, is how Final Fantasy 13 is a long 20 hour hallway. Is it? Yeah. For around 12 hours or so, you'll almost walk straight the entire time with a few divergences here and there with treasure chests at the end. So why am I questioning Final Fantasy 10 fans being hypocrites? If you also like Final Fantasy 13, or like me you think both games are garbage, then this isn't aimed towards you at all, but those of you who have played and love Final Fantasyy 10 but despise Final Fantasy 13 and constantly use the long hallway reference, there's a good chance you're a hypocrite. No offense. One major difference in Final Fantasy 10, unlike 13 is there are towns. However, other than that, Final Fantasy 10 is one long hallway after the next. There are a few divergences leading to a treasure box here, and very very rarely leading to a story event. It's not until you get to the calm lands that there's a few more open areas to explore then you're led back to that long hallway again. Overall, like Final Fantasy 13, Final Fantasy 10 is mostly one long hallway as well. I just wanted to throw that out there. Just think about that next time you call Final Fantasy 13 nothing more than a long 20 hour hallway. |
But those tiny divergences and the airship made an absolute world of difference!
I didn't like 10 or 12 at all, which made me branch off into all the hidden gem JRPGs available on the PS2. Never regretted it.
Never really cared that 13 was linear. However, I hated the story, characters, and battle system. I did enjoy the story and battle system in 10 (the characters, not so much).
Since i value story above all else in rpg's, yeah, I liked 10 and not 13.

Auto battle is possible in FFXIII and you can even do the whole game with only auto battle. You cannot auto battle throughout any other FF game. Sure you could say in FFXII that you can make it automated, but the player has decide what is within via gambits. Auto aiming is definitely different then auto battle though. I never really played those games so I cannot comment on them.

I know it is possible, the point is that Auto-battle is optional. If you hate it, don't use it. Also, just like in XII, you have to set roles for each character in XIII before the battle, and when you lose, you try different combination. During the battle you keep changing roles to adapt to the situation and to stagger the enemies. There is depth to the combat system even if you choose to use auto-battle
Auto aiming is not diffrent at all. press one button ( R2 ) and the pointer is exactly on the enemy... shoot. If the enemy moves, re-press R2 and the pointer is on him again.
I hope my point is clear this time.

Point is, that it is optional. It is not possible in any other FF. FFXIII has an exclusive feature that takes away from the game to most people.
Don't like it? Don't use it. Could not be more true as is the same for this statement. Don't like the game? Don't play it. Yet I did both.
And thus I relay my experiences comparing it to other games in the series.
Auto Aim is for Shooters, while Auto battle is for FFXIII. Very different genres and gameplay mechanics.
