Even if only a 5% of the DS's remain active, that's still more active users than X1 and Wii U.
There aren't any new releases but the catalogue is huge. A bunch of titles selling a few thousand units each does the magic.
Wii U and X1 SW have small catalogues and small user bases so SW sales spike when a new game releases but remain low otherwise.
This is very common in every SW transition. That's also why PS3 and X360 are selling the most SW.
