Based on that replay whatever that was was a foul. I don't get this "rule" that if the ball is touched (and in the above example it was barely touched), then no matter that the other player was absolutely stopped by force to reach the barely touched ball, it's not a penalty. I mean, 98% of the above effort ended up in the colision with the attacker and 2% into touching the ball.

Looking at the replay, i'm not sure what to think. On one hand, Zabaleta touched the ball first so it technically isn't a penalty. But on the other hand, he crossed his right leg all the way to the attacker's left leg to make him fell. So...I say it wasn't a penalty because no one else but the attacker asked for a penalty. Not even the brazilians on the stadium who wanted Iran to win (well, more like wanted argentina to lose).

Is the bolded a rule? Because if yes, it's stoopid questionable.

Look at the speed and direction of the ball and red player. He was on track to get to the ball easily. Even after the slight speed and direction change of the ball.

On the other hand, the white player clearly violently touches both the right thigh (making the right leg twist as the knee goes to the inside and the foot changesdirection) and the left foot. Quite the efficient way of stopping someone in hes tracks.

It's strange that noone asked for a penalty. I didn't see the while action so maybe there was something in the positioning of whatever, but the small replay from abive absolutely shows the red player being prevented from playing the ball.

Question for all you soccer experts.

Say if Germany beats Ghana 2-0 or even 3-0/3-1, is it reasonable to believe they will rest starters vs USA? Correct me if I'm wrong but top seed from the group would be virtually locked for them.

If Germany wins they might rest players against US as they really are not bothered who they play in round of 16 anyways. They expect to beat Belgium, Russia or Korea.

That's interesting.

Hopefully, Portugal will have a Spain type situation where they don't bounce back from the 1st gm beatdown.

I assume both of you are from England. I don't remember England being better than Italy at all. They had the ball more but couldn't do anything real with it.

We had the ball, that is a success for us. :)

Hmm, pie.

Germany is not going to win this one.
I predict 2-0 Ghana.

It would depend on the result of the USA - Portugal game. If USA draw or win then Germany would still need a decent result against them, maybe not so much if USA draw but definitely if they win.

I'm expecting a loss vs Portugal lol

Before the tournament I would have expected the same. But USA did well against Ghana and Portugal were poor against Germany. Now with their suspension and injury problems I think the USA have a very good chance of a win.

I lost confidence in U.S. after Jozy's injury, but I hope you're right.

If Löw doesn't bring Schürrle, this loss will yet again be on his hands by not being able to realize what the team needs.

Germany is not playing that good. Both Argentina and Germany have been disappointing today.

Told you all. Being good in the first game and shit in the second is the modus operandi of the German team.

This would be the second time where a team who destroys in the first match doesn't do too good in the second.
