Just saw that the Catalan sports minister mentioned that Barcelona could end up playing in England, France or Italy.

While I think it's incredibly unlikely, Barcelona in the Premier League would be pretty awesome for sure!

So you're OK with the idea of having to compete in your own league with a team that has to pay way less taxes?

Barcelona playing in England would make no sense. Especially since they would both be out of the EU soon.

Why would that make no sense? If anything it would make more sense than them playing in the league of a country that's still in the EU while they aren't.

Besides, financially it would easily make sense for Barcelona. There's absolutely no way they could earn as much money in a Catalan league, or even by joining the French/Italian leagues compared to what they could get in England.

I think it would still be best for them to stay in the Spanish league, however if that doesn't happen...

I guess if Israeli clubs can play in the UEFA Champions League than Barcelona can play in the Premier League.

I'm a Man City fan... I've clearly got no issue if some teams have more money than others for whatever reason

Unlike having a rich owner, having to pay less taxes dodges the Financial Fair play, so they'll have an advantage over your team too.

Yet there's always rumours about them not having much money and having to sell players to buy, so it can't be that much of an advantage.

They seem to have more than enough to beat EPL teams with ease already.

If Barca were accepted in England, France or what ever they'd have to start all the way at the bottom and make their way back up to the top, that's potentially 4 seasons of no CL or Europa football which would hurt them and the prospect of attracting players. Working something out with the Spanish League is their best option tbh provided a civil war doesn't break out soon.

I wonder how this Catalan movement will affect the Spanish national team.

They wouldn't really "have" to start at the bottom. Especially not in the likes of France which would benefit most from having a huge team like that and having some actual competition for PSG.

Besides, playing in a foreign league but using a potential Catalan European league isn't an impossibility either. I remember UEFA said no to that possibility in regards to Welsh/Scottish teams in England. But unlike Britain, UEFA actually likes Barcelona.

The FAs aren't going to just put them in the top league scot free as that would mean relegating a few teams to make space while other teams fighting for promotion would take legal action against it alongside the relegated teams, they would be placed in the bottom leagues regardless of what benefits they bring that's just how it goes.

$5 says that if Barcelona (or any other Catalan club) tries to move to another country's league the Spanish FA will just lodge a complaint at the UEFA and the UEFA will ban them like when Crimean clubs tried to move to the Russian system after Russia invaded Ukraine.
