I don't personally believe it has got anything to do with Dr Who and the Weeping Angels. I could understand it if the Weeping Angels had reached cultural myth status in the same way werewolves and vampires have but I don't think they have.

i looked for any non-dr. who reference to weeping angles and i couldn't find any.  it's a popular show but i agree most people will have no idea what they are.  then again, if it's introduced in the game i suppose one doesn't really need to know the back story to enjoy a game.   not sure how you'd make a shooting game out of weeping angles but it's a new idea for sure.

i rememer hints before that there was suppose to be a time element to the franchise.   i thought it was more along the lines that they are immortals that have been fighting the so far unknown baddies for ages.  but i guess we'll find out more soon.  excitment!

I'm not saying this will happen but can you imagine if the trailer ended with the sound of the tardis? All hell would break loose.

On another note. People have been condemning Shinobi because of him saying even the devs didn't know about this reveal. On gaf he was quite the laughing stock. It was just a way of covering his ass ... well:

It seems they didn't know and Shinobi was right. That leads to an interesting question though: How the hell did they not know? It's their God damn game! What if Sony now own both the IP AND the studio? That would explain it.
