Forums - Gaming - Microsoft is already thinking about the design of the next Xbox

Hopefully they make a more nicer looking and significantly smaller console.

Well, Not sure why some people don't like the look of it?  I think it looks just fine with my other components.  Like all of the other decisions related to the XB1(DRM, Kinect), this was supposed to be a media device.  If you look at it from that perspective, it looks just fine or really good.  Funny thing is, anybody comparing it to a VCR or Betamax is obviously too young to remember how big (think 3X the current XB1) they were when they came out.

It is near the end of the end....

Shocker. Hopefully, they will be smarter in making their choices than with this one (pun intended).

They're thinking of how to integrate Kinect into the actual console itself, just watch.

How the weren't able to fit the kinect into the current XBO considering its size is beyond me. I mean just look at how big that thing is, and its still using an external power brick.

Its just a boring and huge box though. If I were to buy it, I wouldn't have room for it where my tv is.

Well, what else would you expect the hardware team to be doing? Just sit and twiddle their thumbs for the next 5 years?

Well, my question would be, "why are you telling us all this".

Why are they telling us that they're learning new things everyday, and thinking of the future? Why did they leave out kinect when talking about the future? Why are they telling us about this lighting feature, and how great their quality assurance testing is?

The whole piece reads like this:
We had a bunch of things we wanted to do, and we tried as hard as we could to make sure it was well received. We've put in so may features you probably don't even realize, and we tested it in just about every way imaginable. Every time someone was unhappy, we fixed it. And we will do our very best again next time...we're doing it even now, still. Every day we're learning and putting years upon years of knowledge into our next console. We don't know what we're going to do yet, but trust us when we say we're putting every resource imaginable into making itamazing.

Really the whole piece just reads like: The designers didn't fuck up, the idea guys did.

I always find these articles funny as people take it to mean... wow already, something must be on the way... when in reality the hardware teams are always working, always tweaking. It takes time to test out ideas and really hamper down on an eventual final design.

there's heaps of room inside the xbox 1 to reduce it in size, Microsoft were worried about overheating and thats qhy it has a huge cooling fan.

I take it as saying the idea guys and managers fucked up. It's not the engineers fault, they did an awesome job, and will do an awesome job on the next one.

However, even still, it's an admission that things aren't going so well and that a new console will likely come sooner rather than later.

Look, of course everyone is always preparing for the next console. But talking about it, especially in such an obvious fluff piece, is kind of a sign. They want this news out there. There is a clear tone they are trying to convey: "trust us"

they might win gen 9 with their 4th box, especially if nintendo don't know why they are doing stuff and sony have gone to tech heaven
