Forums - PC - R9 390X details leaked: 1024 bit stacked VRAM!!!

I have been buying Nvidia cards for the last 4 years due to things like 3D vision, Nvidia Shield, game streaming...etc...but I really like what AMD is doing and news like this is great.

Really hate the fact Nvidia could charge 1000 bucks for the top end GPU and things like this should put the pressure on the green giant.

AMD is also rumored to be releasing its own Titan later this summer (295X non 2).  It will be the first to use this VRAM set-up.

Yes, the GTX 480 was a disaster even bigger than what the 290X has been as it was going against the 5870, which was a fantastic card.

On a side note, a sub $400 card that is 4 times stronger than a 7970? You'll have to wait a looong time.

It's really fun to look up old GTX 480 reviews imo.  It usually used more power than a 5970 (A double card!) while only being 20% stronger for like 30% more money.  Quite a joke!

As for when I upgrade.  I am fine waiting, but I don't thing it will be more than 2 years.  The 390X will most likely be twice as strong as a 7970, and once the 20nm 4000+ SP 490X comes out it will easily be 3-4 times stronger.

With Mantle gaining support and DirectX12 promising similar benefits (albeit whis one will most likely require win9 or whatever name they come with), the need for those high end cards will be limited to those with 4k monitors or big eyefinity/surround setups.

Something like a 290/780 may be enough to play any console port at ultra or high at 1080p for most, if not all, this gen.

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Interesting, I plan on building my new PC and thought about the R9 290X, maybe it will drop in price soon, right?
(400€ here is too much for me)

Persona 5 on PS3, I won't need next gen!

Trust me, I doubt the price will drop by much anytime soon.

I've been waiting for a price drop for the 7970 to get another one for crossfire, but they're all still in the $400 range.

Good news for you: the 7970 is basically the same card as the 280X and both cards can be X-fired together.

I knew that the 280x was essentially the same, but hadn't realized they were crossfire compatible! Thanks for the info :D

Before I opened this thread I knew that dumb click hungry website was the source of this, all of his previous leaks were bullshit.

Also true!  My 7970 overclocked benchmarks the same as a 780, so it's not like I need to upgrade... :P

No they weren't.  They got the Titan Z delay and 290X details correct.  Idk what your are talking about...
