Forums - Gaming - Amazon Releases its Ouya Killer!!!

Available now is the Amazon FireTV, a small television set-top box for streaming movies, TV shows and music. It also has a gaming component- which is a bit disappointing since many, including myself were hoping for a fully dedicated gaming console -- or perhaps something more than just Chromecast X Ouya. (Thankfully, Samsung is also rumored to have a console in the works). It plays all your favorite Android games (controller not included) directly through your T.V. (HDMI cord not included) for only $99 dollars. The games are mostly adaptations of mobile titles, such as Gameloft’s Asphalt 8, Minecraft Pocket Edition and Disney’s Monsters University; many are free to play, and the average price of a paid game is around $1.85.

It has a Fast quad-core processor, 2 GB of memory, dedicated GPU, plus 1080p HD video and Dolby Digital Plus surround sound. And support from a plethora of video services, including Netflix, ESPN-Tv, and Showtime. Amazon has also just recently purchased Double Helix, a gaming company, so expect to see more original Android games from Amazon in the near future.

I wonder if this means trouble for the crowdfunding success story that is the Ouya?
