Forums - General - I hope VR is a flop; the confessions of a selfish gamer!

It is my secret wish that Sony's VR flops as hard as 3d gaming did before it! In fact I hope all VR efforts by all companies flop! And if they are successful, at least in execution, I hope they reach only the most niche of markets for as long as possible.

But why you ask, when it has so much potential? Why when it will surely offer the most immersive gaming experiences ever?

Truth is I am a selfish one eyed bastard, at least I see with only one eye, and as a result will never see 3d or any image requiring binocular vision. So here's to technology moving really really slowly in that direction, or toward full holograms asap. Because when/if VR is fully adopted, my handicap is going to take away my favorite pass time

Anyone else have problems with 3d images that will prevent them from experiencing VR?

I don't see why VR wouldn't work for you. 2 eyes aren't necessary as VR just emulates each eye separately. So for you using VR would be the same as you just watching with one eye.

VR is not 3D.

I'm wearing very strong glasses so it's still 50:50 if I can use VR properly but I'm hopeful. It would be amazing if VR could emulate me seeing without glasses as I have no problem with close screens.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

You don't need stereo vision to enjoy VR, it actually might give you less trouble without the fake stereoscopic depth. I assume you have no trouble playing current games. As long as VR doesn't only come up with virtual coffee serving simulators you'll be fine.

VR works for people blind in one eye. You should still be able to achieve presence.

If what you guys say is true I reascend my original position. Fingers crossed it works the way you say it does.

Don't know about Sony's VR, but Occulus rift does work for people who can only see from one eye. It's not exactly 3d so see no reason it requires bi-ocular vision.

It will probably die anyways.

Really, people would be jealous!

Most of us would be stuck with this big ass cumbersome thing:

While you'd have this stylish one:

i've never tried but from what i understand VR is more IMAX than 3D.   I think it can do 3D IMAX as well but the focus is the 90 degree viewing angle + head tilting adjusting the camera moreso than 3D images.

I think it will sell well if, reasonably priced. If priced at $199 it will sell like hot cakes.
