Forums - Sony - Most important german tech magazine previews & compares Project Morpheus

For people who are interested in Project Morpheus, how good it is and how it compares to Oculus Rift, here's a summary of an article in germany's most important IT/technology website.

http://www.heise.de/ct/artikel/VR-Brillen-Sony-Morpheus-und-Oculus-Rift-2-im-Vergleich-2150859.html

Summary:
- While the current OR prototype still looks like a prototype and reminds of skiing glasses, Morpheus already looks like a final product. It looks very stylish and feels very comfortable, Sony chose a clever design that rests the weight on the head, while OR tends to rest more weight on the nose
- The display of the current OR prototype is clearly better. OR uses an 3ms latency OLED display, while the current Morpheus prototype uses an inferior LCD display with 36ms latency. They are convinced that Sony will switch to an OLED display as well before the final product gets released.
- No relevant difference when it comes to tracking
- Morpheus currently has a clear advantage over OR when it comes to input devices, the PS4 controller and Move are an ideal fit and work very well
- VR games shouldn't be played when standing, as the experience is so realistic that people would inevitably try to walk and fall over their furniture
- Even though both devices use full HD displays and picture quality has vastly improved in comparison to the old OR prototype, increasing the resolution is the most important challange for VR in the years to come
- They don't expect either device to come out before next year, as both devices still need to be improved

Conclusion:
The current Oculus Rift prototype has a better display, but that's about the only advantage OR currently has, and they are sure that Sony will switch over to using OLED displays as well, which would make Morpheus even better than the current Oculus Rift prototype.

OLED? Plus the above quote in bold.... sounds like a winner 2 me. Especially when they knock down that latency.

DS4/Move really does seem like a clear advantage for Sony. As a full package, that's going to be hard to match. Move, especially, seems like it would work extremely well. Now, where did I store my Move Sharpshooter ...

I really hope Sony doesn't skimp out on OLED just because of the price. I'd take a perfect 400€ OLED VR over an inferior 200€ LED VR any time.
