Forums - Sony - So Infamous is a flop: why did Sucker Punch fail?

Simple question, difficult answer. With the recent metacritic reviews coming in Infamous Second Son has an average of 81; or a flop by AAA game standards. Where did Sucker Punch go wrong? It's obvious that the 54 critics on metacritic all agreed with one thing: The story sucks.

It's a shame really. But I guess with Titanfall failing to be a great game with a score of 90+, we should have expected this. The next gen simply isn't very next gen if it can't even produce 90+ games on Metacritic because as we all know; great games must have at least a 90+ score to be great.

Put simply: Infamous: Second Son is a flop; as is Titanfall. I guess we're still waiting for the first truely "next gen game".

Discuss why Infamous is a flop in your opinion.

*Disclaimer: I have not played infamous nor Titanfall. I am simply assuming they are bad games based on their subpar 90 meta-scores as most gamers should*

Take a chill pill op. 81.56 is not a flop. They are just rating it down cause they are allowing for higer ratings to come to the new gen systems down the line. Yes they are being hard on PS4 exclusives. The game actually rocks. Could of gotten over 9 if it was a last gen game.

Ign said we have to have higher standards for the new gen in the video review. They ended it with a 8.7 but could have easily gotten a 9 or higher from how the review sounded.

I like IGN but sometimes their scores don't match their descriptions. The review will consistently praise the game and make the viewer/reader believe it's going to be a 9.0+, but then it turns out to be anywhere from 7.5-8.9. It happens quite a few times to be honest.

I was talking about the fact that the reviewer actually said we have to have higher standards because it's next gen. That sounds like he gave it a lower score on purpose so games that come out later can have higher scores.

Ah that makes sense. I didn't understand that the previous time.

@bolded: Doesn't that happen at the start of every gen though? I never really paid attention during gens 5, 6 and 7 so I wouldn't know. But I would assume that at the beginning of a new console cycle the reviewers are more harsh with their critiques because they expect more and over the generation their expectations gradually lower.

My scores:
Titanfall - 9.1/10
Infamous: Second Son - 8.2/10

Although, Infamous: Second Son isn't a flop in my opinion. Still a great game.
