I never got the argument that "if it's day one DLC it should be on the disc."
This argument seems to imply that EVERYTHING that can possibly created for the game should be created regardless of budget, labor, or any other considerations.
Let's put it this way. Suppose a game's budget was $200 million before any advertisement and comprised of 40 hours of quality gameplay. A small sub team worked on a DLC pack that cost 5 dollars and added 5 hours of gameplay. That would be acceptable right?
My point is that these things have to be judged on a case by case basis. If a game offers a good amount of value, and the DLC is a good value, then I don't care if it's day one or day 100. So long as the game is worth $60 and the DLC is worth $15 (or whatever it may be) I'm fine with it. On the other hand, if the game feels incomplete, unpolished, or short, and the DLC is overpriced, then that's not ok.
What I do hate though is preorder DLC, or day one passes. I don't like to buy most games day one. I like to check out reviews, comments, and check out some videos before I pay a lot for a game. Preorder DLC is a way for companies to get players to buy a game before knowing how good it is. Season passes are even worse. Pay money up front before we've even created the content, and you have know idea what it is? Fucking stupid.
