While were at it let's look at how many 360 ps3 games got newsgrouped/torrented in various forms sometimes weeks before actual release dates, flooding the net with spoilers and let's plays of not so legal copies.
The benefit of PC is a larger portion of its gaming user base are more inclined to buy games even if they at first pirated said game, especially during steam sales.
Hell I know someone who proudly ticks off his 'iso deletion' checklist, with an aim to eventually delete all his pirated games through buying them in steam sales.
Console piracy is often a one way street however, the post-hack lockout attempts give owners of modded consoles little reason to buy new, its either 'buy this new game I can't play without losing all my hacked games' or 'just pirate that one too, possibly weeks early'.
There's no such dead end for PC gamers who pirate, they can happily buy and run a game without consequence.
I actually believe its become more of a trend to pirate a game to "see how it runs on my system" than the piracy of old where people generally pirated with no intention of ever buying.
