Probably would work though I'm concerned about the video signal. It depends how your monitor(and the WiiU) deals with it. Since it sounds like a cheap one(vga only?) it might not take it well and the picture could be low res, washed out, squeezed, stretched or shifted to one side. You won't know until you try it.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
