Thoughts for improvement?

"Become one with Joe: a software development thread"

What about the thread content itself?

I think it needs a map like this one, but for development.

The links in the op are great for people already with a direction, but we need to help the clueless people as well.

I'm making a sidescrolling adventure in Unity together with a friend, I've learned many things in C# the past months so development is going pretty smooth! We're planning on getting it to Steam Greenlight towards the summer, if Greenlight still exists by then...

So I'll follow this thread.

Yep.

I'm a programmer, I work mainly in JAVA, C# and VB.NET

Nice.

I can program a calculator, aside from that, I've been working on Java, and C++.  Not completely there yet though for either language, so much left for me to learn.

They take years and years of practise to master.

Hows Unity? I've mucked around on it a little but nothing to write home about. A group of 5 of my friends (including me) have been looking at Unity for a while to make a game with.

Not necessary to master them, but it is best to be at least competent, which I hope to be.

It's necessary for me, it's how I make my money :P

Unity is great. If you're making a 3D game, it can't be beat.

Free version does lack some pro only features but it still includes everything needed to make a game.

My brother is about to start using it in the next few weeks for a project, I'm interested to see how it turns out.

Put http://www.pluralsight.com/training in, that has some of the best tutorials around, what you do is get a prezzi card and keep making accounts to take advantage of the 200 free minutes.

It would be nice to have info on game engines and code they use as well. Thanks for posting

Where do you want to start? The code is useless unless you understand what it does. What kind of games are you interested in making?

I made a battle chess game in c# using unity which also works with boo and java languages. So what I meant is it would be cool to list what languages work with the game engines you listed

Okay, it's not super colorful, but I found and stole this.  Yes?  No?

That looks good enough for programing.
