Forums - Microsoft - Thief PC native 1080p versus Xbox One upscaled 1080p - can you spot the differences?

the DF article was rather confusing, the gaf thread about it is pretty funny.. Eltorro takes home the winner

The game sounds like a mess

I am Torgo, I take care of the place while the master is away.

"Hes the clown that makes the dark side fun.. Torgo!"

Jaggies... a lot in one version... it is blurry too.

Live the difference will be bigger.

what is the native resolution and fps on the xbone ?

worse res and fps than the ps4 and with more shimmer and worse aliasing artefacts, but declared the winner by df

900p, 30~20FPS on XOne. PS4 actually holds framerate better since it's 30~25FPS, but it has frame pacing issues so perceived framerate is actually worse. PS4 has trilinear filtering and XOne 16XAF, that makes quite a big difference in IQ and I would agree with them that the difference in resolution doesn't make the PS4 version better since it's lacking in every other regard, also the FXAA employed on both versions is quite competent to hide jaggies, even though it doesn't hold a candle to the PC version since that can use MSAA.

Dont forget the POM controversy as well.

I hate youtube for graphical comparisons, the compressions are extremely bad.

i dont know if youtube can even output 720p.

”The environment where PlayStation wins is best for this industry” (Jack Tretton, 2009)

The difference is not there, unless you are really nitpicking.

I know this was PC vs. XBox, but choosing either home-console based on power alone this gen is pointless. People should just look at what exclusives they want and get that, instead of counting pixels on multi-plats which are barely any different. I doesn't matter which version you have, you'll have just as much fun even with a couple of 'shimmering birdcages'.

Not much of a difference.

Youtube compression makes things like this pointless.

Digital foundry said there is virtually no difference, becasue there is virtually no difference.

Resolution wars are the dumbest wars ever.

You're in most resolution threads, including this one, arguing that there's virtually no difference. I posted a comment that you interpreted as "pro difference" (it's not), and you felt the need to fight back. Keep partaking in the dumbest wars ever I guess.

I cannot spot the difference here but this is likely due to h.264 compression artifacts and low video bitrate. The difference between native and upscaled resolution is typically huge.
