Forums - Microsoft - Rumor: "Microsoft will buy Epic Games for $1 billion this summer!"

I doubt this will happen, and i'm sure Epic is worth way more than a billion dollars, they've probably made more than that on the Unreal franchise alone.

"Blizzard is one of those companies too."

Not anymore. But, I think it would be a terrible move by Epic if it were true. Their middleware profits will be minimalized if they decided to do this.

But all that money is rather tempting. I mean, if you are a big over there, you sell, take the money, and leave the company. Like a lot of Rare staff... Oh that Rare shaft job...

If MS bought Epic why do you all think they wouldn't continue to license out the UE3 engine? That's making them money so why stop.

Thank you!  Some logic was definetly needed in this thread!

Unreal engines could still be licensed out to all 360 exclusives and multiplatform games.

I don't think MS would lend out licences for PS3 exclusives, but how many PS3 exclusives games are currently using the unreal engine anyways?

it will never happen. Epic is just like Valve. Independent and powerful.

couldnt say it better myself

I dont think this will happen, but if it does, how long do you think it will be before all the Sony fanboys that were like UT3 EXCLUSIVITY FTW!!!! come out saying, nothing Epic has really interests gamers anyway?

I'm pretty sure everyone knows that UT3 was always a timed exclusive

MS still has control of Bungie games... While Epic would be a good pick-up for them (mainly for the UE), I feel they would have been better served with picking up BioWare when they were available.

There are only so many FPS/TPS games one needs from their first-party studios. Since MS perplexingly continues to use Rare as an FPS house, that seems really redundant to me.

Is Epic even worth $1 billion? Also, the argument that MS wouldn't license out UE3 to games for the PS3 makes as much sense as Sony preventing MS from using Blu-Ray.

I think Microsoft would be more likely to buy Sega... I don't see the fit for Epic. Unreal Engine is cross platform, all their games are cross platform. How would that help Microsoft? At least with Sega they would get a huge franchise name in Sonic, and they could just drop the cross platform because they don't sell a programming engine.

ya but the PC version is the best version. And its selling as well as crysis is in the EU so Epic wont be selling out as they are still a middleware dev anyways.
