Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS3 Lost Planet - 5GB Install

Sigh.

 http://www.psu.com/Lost-Planet-requires-5GB-installation-News--a0002773-p0.php

This is becoming a big problem with PS3.  DMC4, Hot Shots 5, GT5:P and now Lost Planet, all require 5GB installs now.  Hope, you didn't get a 40GB and want those games, there goes half your HDD.

GT5:P is only 2 gigs on the PSN right?

But two of those are capcom games.

Capcom should be less lazy with these installs.

Not a problem really as you can pick up cheap 2.5" SATA drives and swap out your old PS3 HD easily. This would be more of a problem if it was concerning the 360 where you don't have as much freedom to simply buy a standard HD and plug it in.

Hard Disk usuage = Faster loading time = smoother game experience

I am largely platform agnostic. I fail to understand why some people get overly fanboyish about what is an inanimate piece of electronics that's obsolete even before it's launched, when there are far more important things to champion, such as preventing environmental destruction or preventing millions of people dying unnecessarily from illnesses. This fact however, doesn’t mean I am not someone who doesn’t enjoy gaming as a pastime (as I have done for the last 20 years) or doesn’t have a strong interest in how the market is evolving – hence my presence on this site.

Platforms owned – PC, DS, X-Box 360, PS3, PSP and Wii.

Your link is b-b-b-b-broken.

why is it a problem? installing data onto the HDD allows games to run better. There are some games on the 360 that will require an HDD for installs too. This type of thing has been known to happen since the original Xbox as that had installs too. Plus an 80GB laptop HDD to upgrade is only $59. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136099

is loading from the disk really that long that they make you do this instead?

Cue the same argument that we've had three or four times before.

there is another link, i'm not sure if it was my link, or the site, psu can be weird sometimes. if that one doesn't work, its the site.

here is my big problem with this whole thing.

1. With GT5:P the majority of copies sold will be blu-ray copies, not PSN downloads. I feel like as the Prologue has never come out in America before, a lot of people are going to see GT5:P and go, "OMG! GT5 is out, mam, can I please have a copy of that" People are going to think Prolouge is a suffix like A-Spec was. They are going to get home, they are going to install all 5GB and not know how to deleate the 3GB of movies. Very few people are going to download this, maybe 10% of consumers I feel like.

2. Most people will not go change out a HDD. People have always associated console gaming as buying a set unit and having to change parts out like a PC. They aren't going to even realize what is wrong and just live with the problem of a full HDD.

3. People who bought the 40GB are going to get pissed off and this isn't good at Sony. PS3 was $600 orignally, now its $400, a lot of people have jumped on the $400 price point. Now in a year, when their HDD is full and they are intelligent enough consumers to realize the problem, they are going to say I paid $400 for this now I need a $100 HDD, wow! I just got screwed by Sony, I'll think twice before buying their products again.

2. gamers aren't that stupid

3. most people who bought the 40GB model use it only for Blu-ray movies.
