Now, if u want to play a PS1/2 game on ur PS3, is it region locked ? or region free ?
Can I still play my favorite PAL PS1/2 games using a US/Jap PS3 ?
Can I buy a US/Jap PS1/2 game to play on a PAL PS3 ?
(I m talking about the PS3 sku that possess PS2 BC (60/80/20gb) or PS1 BC (all))

No...still will not work.
PS1, PS2 games are region locked no matter what region PS3 or PS2 or PS1 your using.
You cannot play PAL PS2 games on a US PS3 or vice-versa.
$Sony made this generation PS3 games region free. Also PSP games are region free.

No. If you get an American or Japanese PS3, you will not be able to play PAL PS1, PS2, DVD or Blu-ray films on it.
You will be able to play all region PS3 games, and all region PS3 games only.

PSN downloads are generally region free. But there have been some issues with a few of the downloads.
If you sign up for an American account on an American PS3, region issues wouldn't really be a problem.
The PS3 isn't region free. It still has region encoding installed in it. The games will just work on all PS3 regions.
Games are not region locked but they could be.
I'm thinking about the demo of Uncharted. When it came out on the US PSN, PAL PS3s weren't able to play it, it was region locked. But hopefully they fixed the issue and it was reuploaded region free.

It is not the PS3 that is region free, it is the PS3 games.
