Forums - Microsoft - If Microsoft ends up winning with the less powerful, more expensive console, what's left?

fallen said:

With signs such as the PS4 knack bundle selling almost none on Amazon UK today (check with Amazon trick) and Titanfall generating huge buzz, along with Microsoft's success at keeping Xbox One well supplied allowing it to win December NPD, it feels like while it may take a few months and it's too early to say, the tide could be turning for Xbox One.

So if Microsoft wins with pretty much every deficiency possible-the horrible DRM PR, less power, more expensive- is there anything Sony and Nintendo can do? Just give up?

Considering the standalone PlayStation 4 is at number one even though it is sold out, the Killzone bundle is at number two, and the Knack bundle is steadily rising on the charts, I would say that you are trolling. For the Knack bundle to be at number 30 - which is higher than both the standalone Xbox (61) and the Fifa bundle (63) - it has to be selling more than "almost none", unless of course the Xbox is selling less than almost none?

As to Microsoft keeping their console well stocked, I really don't think they intended for it to be this..."well stocked".

At this rate I can agree with that thought OP. Consoles need to sell well overall though to quell the brain damaged peeps who say console gaming is dead.

@ The OP Your last sentence. Read it then answer me. Did you feel the same when PS3 first came out?

Currently Xbox One has more features, more exclusives and more exclusives in 2014. Almost the same power and a better online service with Cloud.

Poor thread. Very poor. Is this what VGC has fallen to?

1) XOne has not more features.

2) PS4 is more powerful by a significant margin.

3) PS4 is cheaper.

4) Titan Fall will be on PC also, and so much better.

5) Both PS4 and One has good exclusives for 2014, and you still don't know all the exclusives for both.

6) and you are the one talking about how low level these forums are going, when you are the first talking 'low level'...

Power=/= overall enjoyment.

PS4 has its issues too. (Game save-erasing bugs, light bar, controllers not holding charges, etc.) Nothing in this life is perfect. People are wiling to pay the $100 difference if they prefer the feature set and exclusive games on one or the other. (For the same reason people are willing to buy new games at $60 when perfectly good - or better - older games are available for $15 or whatever. )

Price and power are important, obviously, but to suggest that one or both is the only factor is simply console wars nonsense.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

So far the Xbox One is only really competing in the USA. It's already a long way behind in Europe and no one expects it to do well in Japan when its eventually released. Yes the USA is important but its still only one market.

For the Xbox One to compete in Europe with its much weaker spec it would need to undercut ps4 pricing. In the short term I can't see Microsoft doing that.

Titanfall is a new IP and not an established brand. It exists on PC and 360 too. This is unlikely to be the game that drives Xbox one sales. The new Halo game will drive sales for sure.

The failure of the wii u and the pricing and spec of the xbox one gives the ps4 a huge advantage this generation. Microsoft have basically handed this generation on a plate to Sony.

Really Microsoft need to be winning in the the USA significantly to stay in the race but as far as I can see they are level pegging. It may simply be that Microsoft are extracting as much money as possible from their early adopters before price cutting. I'm sure Microsoft realise their high price is damaging their sales and market share.

Ps4 has mroe exclusives for 2014, and in development

Ps4 is significantly more powerfull

is cheaper

Playstation is a lot bigger World wide then Microsoft, thus why ps3 could come back, xbox never will. Sony sells in  all territiries, MS is way to one side american focused.

Ps4 has just as many features and more will come like any new console, nothing x1 can do ps4 can't

Ms only chance to stay fairly close is to win Us easily, right now they are losing the US.

The thread looks more ridiculous by the hour.

Depends what you mean by "wins".  If a console sells well and is profitable, it's a win.

Also we are far, FAR too early in this whole process to think anything we've seen so far is representative of how things will end up say 3 or 5 years from now.  It's kinda disappointing (but not surprising) to see so many post here with people getting riled up about any of this.  So silly.

If the Xbox One won, it would continue 30+ years of tradition where the strongest never won. PS4 is ruining tradition.

But the most expensive has also never won.

Either way the universe is exploding.

Paradox!

NO, it just means the Wii U is going to win after all.  Not the most expensive or most powerful.  Bazinga

MS has to drop kinect and undercut PS4's price but this won't be done until its too late IMO.

All Xbox can do this gen is be profitable in its own right and get a comfortable 2nd place, two things PS3 couldn't do for most of its lifespan.
