I can see them hitting the half a billion mark in the next three-four years.

Interesting to see that Sony' only a couple of hundred million behind Nintendo despite entering the console race a decade later

Yeah, they have done excellent with home console sales.  Even the PS3 as a lowpoint will end up near 100 million.  Still, in fairness to Nintendo, it's not completely fair to compare today's console numbers with those from decades ago.  For example, the NES selling 61 million long before the video gaming market became nearly as big as it is today is impressive as hell.

I agree, but at the same time Nintendo didn't have much competition in North America and Japan until SEGA came out with the Master System.

I wonder when will they surpass Nintendo in that regard. Nintendo already has around 670 million units of hardware sold. It's estimated their software sold around 4 billion of units!

About the half a billion part I think they will reach that mark with the help of the PS4! They need to sell about 69 million consoles if I calculated things correctly. I think in 4 years it's totally possible.

Can you list how much each console sold?

Sure why not?

Nintendo DS: 154.88

Game Boy: 118.69

Wii: 100.95

Game Boy Advance: 81.51

Nintendo Entertainment System: 61.91

Super Nintendo Entertainment System: 49.10

Nintendo 3DS (up until now): 42.57

Nintendo 64: 32.93

Gamecube: 21.74

Wii U (up until now): 5.34

Total: 669.62

Thanks! Even if wii u failed Nintendo would still make it to 700 just with 3DS!

And all it took was one console (ps3) to wipe out everything Sony made. Before someone asks for proof, just check Sony's financials.

Thing is, this thread is not about financials. We're discussing units sold here, mkay?

They are a business, total units sold is meaningless if they go bankrupt.

that has been discussed to death so there is no reason to force that topic onto this thread (as it usually ends in console wars/people getting banned anyway)

Still that is not the subject of this thread. Make a topic if you want to discuss that.

The website has this rule about posting on topic. So if you want to participate it'd be better if you discussed the topic itself. Getting banned over this is not worth it.
