Xbox Music keeps getting better, especially if you like taking your music on the go. Today, we’re updating the Android Xbox Music app to add offline mode, letting you download and store your playlists on your Android mobile device. Whether you’ve created the perfect playlist on Xbox One, Xbox 360, Windows 8 or online at music.xbox.com, you can now instantly listen on your phone, even if you’re not connected to mobile Internet or Wi-Fi.



Also included in today’s Android update, you get faster access to your music from the moment the app is opened. Just tap on the cover art for an artist, song or album to immediately start playing music.  You’re never without music the second you want to jam. Starting today, you can also play your entire collection without picking a specific band, album or genre. Not sure what you want to listen to? Play your entire collection on shuffle to hear your favorites, one after another. You can also focus in on a specific type of music and play every song in your collection from one specific genre.

We’ve done a lot of work to enhance Xbox Music on mobile devices lately. Along with today’s Android update, we’ve had several recent updates to the Windows Phone and iOS experiences. Last week we released offline mode for playlists and fast playback on iOS and in December we released a new Xbox Music preview app on Windows Phone 8, giving you a look into the new music experience and design coming to Windows Phone.

So is Xbox music good and worth the price?

I have a subscription, and I do find it worth the price. The interface is beautiful, and the song selection is massive. It has everything you would find on iTunes. My only issue with it is that you can't edit your playlists (re-arrange songs) on the device itself. You need to edit the playlists on your PC or Xbox and then sync it with your mobile device. That is pretty inconvenient, and just downright lazy on MS part. 99 cent Android music apps let you edit playlsts from within the device itself. There's no reason Xbox Music should force you to connect to a PC. This isn't 2004.

Edit: This is in regards to Xbox Music on Windows Phone 8. I have not tried it on any windows tablets.

Personally, I really don't care for it. I just use Pandora or iHeartRadio
